"The Sopranos" is arguably one of the greatest TV shows ever to grace the small screen.
The HBO crime family drama, created by David Chase, aired from 1999 to 2007 and received 112 Emmy nominations and 21 wins -- not too shabby!
returns tonight, the story will pick up right after the gunshot that rang out at the end of last week’s episode—aimed at Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) and the mother-to-be of his child Savannah Hayes (Rochelle Aytes).
But the interesting twist for fans of the series is that this episode was written by Kirsten Vangsness, who plays Penelope Garcia.“One of the funnest things of writing this episode is that when something happens to someone on the team, everybody’s thrown,” Vangsness tells Because I know for a fact sometimes when I’ve been shooting scenes, I’m like, “Wait a minute, that’s not what we wrote.” Or someone will call “line,” and you know the line.
That makes for really good drama because people make mistakes, and people say things that they shouldn’t.”In addition to talking about writing the episode, Vangsness also chatted about how she became a regular on the series, the special relationship between Penelope and Derek, her new movie and more. Is acting in an episode different when your fellow actors are speaking words that you’ve written? Then we would swap the acts, give notes and tighten things up.
One of the scenes that I have in this, it was really interesting because I had written it and I was very emotional when I wrote it, and then we acted it. I had written something for a character that I’ve been playing for this long, and then I was saying it, because your job as a writer is to write the words, and then, as the actor, you interpret those words.

“So everybody’s adrenaline is going, and everybody’s not in their regular calm, expanded, creative mind to be able to solve problems. Typically, as an actor, you don’t give them the line, you wait for the script supervisor to do it, but sometimes it’s automatic like, “Oh, you say this.” But for the most part, I can let it go.
Everybody’s little demons come out because everybody’s scared. The way we wrote this, because it’s co-written by me and [executive producer] Erica Messer, was I wrote act one and act four and she wrote act two and act three.
Series star Matthew Gray Gubler directs the episode, and A. But again, how the “Morcia” fans receive it all is yet to be seen.
Moore, though, acknowledges Baby Girl and Chocolate Thunder for all that they are, and what they are not.
